The Gregg lab studies how early life events make people more likely to develop metabolic diseases. The ultimate goal is to find treatments that help these high-risk individuals. To do this, the lab uses cell models and samples from human mothers and babies to see how nutrition during infancy contributes to long-term risks for diabetes, insulin resistance, and liver issues like MASLD. Additionally, the research group is participating in a large study that looks at how a mother’s blood sugar during pregnancy affects her milk and her baby’s health markers. Specifically, the group is testing how glucose levels during pregnancy change breast milk composition and how mammary cells function.
